The Harvest Box's mission is to offer local and seasonal food from farmers on the North Coast to the Del Norte community. Buying from local farms strengthens Del Norte's local food system in a few ways.
Purchasing food from local producers keeps Del Norte finances within the local economy. Our local farmers are community members who live alongside all Crescent City residents. This financial support not only keeps their farms open, but you can feel good knowing you are supporting members of your community.
Supporting local farms also increases local job opportunities. More local food is grown when a demand for local food is high. When our farmers need to increase food production, they will hire youths in the community.
When the demand for local food is high, more local food will be grown. The human body has evolved to eat seasonal foods and foods that grow on the local land. Seasonal foods have higher nutritional value, and ensure that the body is getting a variety of different nutrients that are only available during different seasons.
Local foods also supports the health of the land by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. When local and seasonal foods are chosen, less transportation across long distances is required to ship out-of-season foods from one country to another.
As you can see, there are so many reasons to support our local farmers. Thank you for being part of strengthening Del Norte's local food system!

Seabreeze Farms
Perched on a cliff overlooking the Klamath River and Pacific Ocean, Seabreeze Farms utilizes several greenhouses to pump out a wide array of both plants and produce for the community. Started in 2010, they specialize in cherry tomatoes, cluster tomatoes, basil, strawberries, peppers, and one gallon tomato starts for Del Norte, Humboldt, and Josephine Counties in the spring. A large portion of their produce goes to the school district for student lunches and the summer food program. They also supply produce and farm fresh eggs to local businesses (The Requa Inn, Seaquake Brewery, Wild Rivers Market) and sell them to the public at both of the local Crescent City farmers markets.
